Brief us about the inception of your career? What were your ambitions as a teenager?

I started my productive paying career as a tutor for two kindergarten students for about $3.00 a month! During my childhood, my beliefs were heavily influenced by the surroundings I grew up in. And, I believed that if you do well academically, your career and life are set. This led me to secure 3 masters degrees as a result. During the first two, which I did in parallel, I was intrigued by direct marketing concepts from the West and joined a direct marketing company which saw me go door to door and build a team over 1.5 years, perhaps the best training I ever got which formed the foundation of my later years. This was an unconventional step for someone who could have gotten a cushy job right out of grad school. But, I enjoyed my time there. Later, I started my own direct marketing company and eventually got into tech. That saw me come to the US to get another tech related MBA since my previous degrees happened in traditional settings. I spent about 22 years in the US climbing the corporate ladder, experiencing the snakes and ladders of the game. I went on to pursue entrepreneurial ventures too on the side. Eventually, in 2019, just prior to the pandemic, it dawned on me that irrespective of how long or how well you did in the corporate world, you are whittled down to a 2 page resume. All your experience and expertise will die with you if you don’t share. I took a page out of my teaching career when I taught undergrad and grad business students, a time I thoroughly enjoyed and started a podcast, Plan B Success to do just that, focused on entrepreneurs, career professionals and students. That podcast has grown leaps and bounds, listened to across the world and is also a YouTube channel. I have invested in and currently focused on growing SaaS based businesses under the Incepteo Ventures Group. These two keep me busy and I share my experiences of being an entrepreneur and a solopreneur at the same time, over various social media channels.

As for my teenage years, I believe I wanted to be anything and everything that caught my fancy; from teaching to acting to spirituality and more. I was like a sponge absorbing what the world had to offer.

What are the aims and ideals that guide you as you run your company?

Service is the cornerstone ideal that guides me in all my endeavors. I am all about serving to the benefit of the consumer, in the best possible way and if you focus on that, it will help grow your business and money will follow. Whether it’s the end consumer or those who make it possible to serve, everyone should be learning, evolving and benefiting in their specific journeys with us.

As an innovative leader, how do you manage to inspire your team to innovate and think outside the box?

There are no rule books to follow. Create what works for you and while you may take inspiration from others, don’t just follow blindly and confine your creative self. Take calculated risks, focus on consumer satisfaction and benefit in all that you do. This is what I propagate to my team.

What were the challenges and obstacles you faced along the way?

I faced a lot of challenges along the way, perhaps many were self imposed as to what you have told yourself mentally. Self limiting beliefs, allowing others to influence you, self doubt based on those you look up to, I have been through it all. And, now, I have reigned over each of these. Remember, at the end of the day, if you fail or succeed, you have to OWN IT UP. No one else is spending an ounce of their thinking on you as you believe they are. So, chart your own path and pull along those who want to be on the same journey as you.

What sets your company apart from the rest of the market? Do you believe in diversifying?

What sets us apart is our thinking and execution strategy. At Incepteo Ventures, we are on a journey to ideate, build and grow about 4-6 SaaS companies over the next 18-24 months. The difference is that we will do this ourselves from soup to nuts and each one will go through a disciplined journey over 180 days to be commercially viable. We are executing this ourselves. We already have about 3 ready and going into commercialization. For example, Collude.cloud is a branded private social network to help businesses and aggregators of businesses (such as chambers of commerce, university alumni organizations, recruitment agencies etc.) build their brand and engagement on the backend of time and effort invested in their prospects and clients, so they may retain their loyalty and see ROI in terms of increased revenues and repeat business. We also have an Insurance CRM company and an HR Tool set company. So, yes we do believe in diversifying.

On the Plan B Success end, we will continue to create and share cutting edge content, courses, speaking engagements and more within the self development space.

Plan B Success has been recognized as a top 10 business podcast across the world and Tech Radar’s Best Business Podcasts of 2022.

Where do you see your organisation in the years to come? How do plan to respond to the lows that followed the pandemic?

We see our business, both Incepteo Ventures and Plan B Success growing phenomenally over the next few years. We expect to respond to the lows with cautious planning, razor sharp focus on value creation and delivery to our consumers, employees and investors, and a very focused execution strategy.

Plan B Success is also in the business of consumer growth and satisfaction through their self development.

What is your advice to budding entrepreneurs who wish to kick start their careers?

Be like a sponge and learn all you can, there are so many resources now available for you to do that. Learn from others’ mistakes and make your own, but let them be different and don’t repeat the same one twice. Fail fast and hard as you figure out your success strategy. Don’t let anyone else tell you what you are capable of, believe in yourself and develop the stamina to go through the lows and highs on this long ride.

How would you describe your journey? Brief us on the inception story of your career.

An influencer, an entrepreneur, mother of two, and Ambassador of Hope, donning multiple hats gives me a sense of true achievement. It all began when I went around speaking to my followers in Ras Al Khaimah, without revealing my face. Back then people only knew me by my voice.

Starting in 2016, little did I know that I would scale heights of success growing from a mere 99 followers to a whopping 700K+ followers today. Given my interest and passion, I was determined to prove my mettle in an industry then dominated by only male influencers.

It was important for me to connect better with my audience and build trust which was the reason behind my decision to reveal my face. I started off with simple, step-by-step blogs on beauty and travel that showed my followers how to use a makeup kit and ace a look or plan a particular trip.

I enjoy being a part of every woman’s everyday life and stick to the mantra of ‘less is more’. The content I share is simple yet relatable and in resonance with all women out there. As a lifestyle influencer in RAK, it is of paramount importance for me to authentically showcase all that I believe and do. A true influencer, I believe focuses on not just one aspect but shines bright in all roles she plays as a woman. Therein lies her true nature and that’s how she embodies the spirit of true strength and empowerment.

    Michael Hartland

    Inception

Creativity and communication have been there since I was very young – writing long, fantastical stories, composing music, starting a class newspaper (which ran to one edition only!).  And I learnt the first habit of highly effective people according to Stephen Covey – “Be Proactive”!

    Teenager

As a teenager, my dreams were aligned with my interest in the arts – at school I wanted to go into advertising, then I wanted to be conductor; at Cambridge I wanted to be famous writer.  And today I find myself involved in marketing, “conducting” all the different elements of a school and writing blogs and articles for both professionally and privately.

    Aims and Ideals

I recently updated our mission statement: “We reach out to provide excellence in individualised education, to nurture, extend and enrich young people to develop into the global citizens and leaders of the future.”  This encapsulates several key ideas for me: reaching out to the wider world, excellence and extension, individualisation in education, nurture and enrichment, global vision, citizenship and responsibility, leadership, the future.

I try to align my leadership style with these ideals – engaging with the world outside my school, setting standards for excellence, relating to individuals as individuals, promoting supportive and nurturing relationships within my organisation, seeking to enrich and extend students, staff and myself, thinking globally, ensuring all take responsibility for their roles, growing leadership, focusing on what’s needed to remain flexible for the future.

    Innovation

One of the best books on creativity I’ve read is “Serious Creativity” by Edward De Bono.  He made me see that we can make creativity happen by being proactive.  I started to explore using mindmaps and discovered the power of giving time to lateral thinking.

I encourage the use of mindmaps amongst my leadership team, by sharing my own handwritten draft “think pieces”, to show them the value of sharing the process of thinking.  Some of them have started to do the same!

I also encourage regular personal development, with our “Tuesday Tips” for staff, and a regular book present for the leadership team at Christmas!  I set time aside quarterly for a few hour’s to focus on discussing the latest book – which is currently Develop the Leader Within You by John Maxwell.

    Challenges and Obstacles

I have come to believe that the greatest challenges and obstacles are within ourselves.  You can find a way to approach nearly any external challenge, but it is often people who create either their own self-limiting barriers, or the possibilities of real lasting damage to others through their own personal issues which display as anger, negativity, hurtful comments and any kind of blocking or destructive behaviour.

    What sets us apart?

What sets us apart as a learning community is our International Scholarship Programme, our global integration and ethos, and what we call our “Chase Passport” which is a way that students develop global citizenship, personal skills and leadership.  Our motto is “Expect to Achieve”, and that’s exactly what we do!

    Accreditations

In 2019 our work on character and personal development was highlighted by the ISC (Independent Schools Council) as an example of best practice, and in 2022 our A Level results at A and A* were the best in Staffordshire.

    In Years to Come…

Our mission statement is relatively future-proof, though I would be surprised if it didn’t evolve further over the next few years. An economic downturn obviously poses a challenge for families wishing to choose an independent education, but I do believe that having survived a global pandemic – our team strength can survive anything!

    Advice

I have 5 core beliefs about leadership.  The first two are foundational, and the last three are about what you do when you’re actually doing leadership:

    Vision

You can’t lead without a own vision of where your team is going.  You then need to “paint a picture” repeatedly and vividly through words of that vision to those who should be following you.  You can’t do this without really understanding in depth where you are through talking to people, gathering data and watching perceptively.  This convinces people that you have credibility because you understand where they’re all at now, and they will want to follow you, because they are excited about where you can help them go.

    Values

If you are don’t know what your values are, you are vulnerable to being exploited or taking unethical routes which appear to offer short-term success.  Ask yourself what your deepest values are.  I often give new leaders the task to sketch or write their “leadership journey”, which helps them get in touch with what really motivates them within.

    Team Potential

“Get the right people on the bus” is Jim Collins’ advice in his book Good to Great, and it’s great advice!  How well do you know the potential of your team?  How good are you at assessing their existing strengths and where they could be even better?  How will you grow them?

    Competence and Creativity

Work out what competences you need to make your team a success, but don’t fixate so much on competence that you stifle creativity.  The best teams grow organically, and the best leaders listen to their team’s creative ideas and helps them grow.

    Adapt and Intervene

Life is full of unforeseeables, so you must always monitor what’s going well and what’s not, then intervene decisively.  It’s almost always better to act than not to act, though also beware “knee-jerk”, short-term reactions – thinking about something overnight, or doing some fundamental thinking with a mindmap are ways I’ve found to move from obstacle or crisis to opportunity and creative solution.

  • Mr. Dejan Stancer

    Mr. Dejan Stancer

Brief us about the inception of your career? What were your ambitions as a teenager?

When I was a teenager, we had more dreams than ambitions. If anything, our ambitions were then time-based, with almost no experience. Since I had no experience, the perception at the time was also something that would be hard to reconcile with today. In any case, even back then I dreamed of being a successful business leader, in a framework that is not in the least comparable to what I do today.

But, again, many of the things that broadened my horizons and made me who I am today happened much later than in my teenage years.

What are the aims and ideals that guide you as you run your organization?

The goals of the Global Chamber of Business Leaders are clear and written in the organization’s development strategy.

It’s all about that in this turbulent period, in the period of the Decade of Action, business leaders, governmental officials, and entrepreneurs from around the globe come together in this global marketplace to share knowledge, facilitate business collaboration and opportunity, and work together to be a part of the global solution in this new, disruptive business environment. Recognizing that innovative business models and best practices must unite with strategies of sustainability. It is our global mandate to govern, develop policy, and grow our businesses in a manner that makes a positive impact on the environment, society, and our global economy. This could happen under the auspices of the Global Chamber of Business Leaders as the umbrella global organization of global leaders.

As an innovative leader, how do you manage to inspire your team to innovate and think outside the box?

A good leader must first know his team to know how to inspire them. Only when you know the people with whom you spend most of your time, when you know how they think, feel and breathe, you also know how and what is the best way to motivate someone, so that they will give their best, even what they might he couldn’t even bring himself to give up.

In my opinion, it is necessary to show people first that you are also just a human being made of flesh and blood. It is necessary to create trust because all business success is based on trust, only then on cooperation, the pleasure that success brings, and finally, the reward for success.

What were challenges and obstacles you faced along the way?

There are no obstacles, there are only challenges from which experience comes. Otherwise, yes, there was a lot of everything, and it still is. Probably all of us are faced with constant and daily challenges in these times. But as said, challenges require solutions and looking for solutions can also be fun one day when you look back.

What sets your company apart from the rest of the market? Do you believe in diversifying?

The Global Chamber of Business Leaders is a unique organization of its type in the world, bearing its own fingerprint. At our core, we unite business and political leaders, CEOs and executives, entrepreneurs, investors and business and industry leaders who share a common vision: the sustainable well-being and growth of business in a disruptive and ever-evolving global economy.

At the Global Chamber of Business Leaders we prioritize activities that align with the UN-declared Decade of Action, promoting the importance of the inclusion of the Sustainable Development Goals in the business models of the future, allowing our partners, members, and participants to prepare their businesses to be vanguards of the future.

At the same time, I should emphasize that, despite all of the above, we stand for the values that unite us, such as: ethical doing business, transparency, solidarity, and above all, more dialogue and cross-border and global cooperation.

Kindly mention some of the notable recognitions and accreditations received by your person and organisation?

In my life, I have received many awards and recognitions, and I have also been published in many media from completely different parts of the world. I have also been published on the covers of newspapers quite a few times, even in some of the most prestigious ones. I have also received numerous state awards and honors for my past work. I also received the award for the most inspiring leader, the award for the most influential leader, the award for the most transformational leader, I was inducted into the book of greatness, etc. In short, quite a bit of everything has accumulated over the years, as already mentioned.

Where do you see your organisation in the years to come? How do plan to respond to the lows that followed the pandemic?

The Global Chamber of Business Leaders is experiencing continuous growth. I’m talking about growth in all areas, not just financial. We are strengthening our personnel, expanding the network, which already includes over 150 countries in the world, establishing new systems and subsystems from which some of the biggest events and initiatives in the world will develop in the coming years… In short, all roads lead to the goal, and the goals are to the Global Chamber of Business Leaders becomes the largest and umbrella organization of global leaders. We are working hard on this, and we intend to work on it until we reach this goal.

We are not worried about the pandemic, and we want it to end as soon as possible. In terms of business, the pandemic brought us a lot of bad things, but since we reacted quickly and wisely, I must admit that we also knew how to turn a lot of bad things into good things. In the end, we even succeeded, and today we stand here, stronger than ever

What is your advice to budding entrepreneurs who wish to kick start their careers?

I advise them not to expect success overnight, to realize that they have hard work ahead of them, sleepless nights full of worries, but also many unforgettable and beautiful moments. They should surround themselves with people with experience. To honest and non-greedy people. Let them become members of associations in which people work who are successful and are ready to share their experiences. They should operate globally, even if they start locally. They should realize that ambition is just as important as inner strength. If they launch themselves into the stars, they can still land successfully on the moon in the end, would be my advice.

Because sustainable living also includes sustainable energy Princess Maja  von Hohenzollern very actually joined the successful  the german energy pioneer  B4H Green Energy SE as a shareholder.

Co2 neutral energy systems with which one can independently generate and save electricity are the future and, in view of the rapid increase in energy costs, are in tune with the times.

B4H Green Energy SE is one of the German market leaders in the field of innovative green energy systems for heating, cooling and electricity generation with their own developed unique VISSOLAR system.

The VISSOLAR energy systems from B4H Green Energy SE are a future-proof innovation and immediately excited me.

Galloping energy costs and supply insecurity have become a major burden for many families as well as businesses.

That is why we need innovative, C02-neutral energy systems so that people and entrepreneurs can once again rely on affordable energy.

Above all, I was convinced by the broad applicability to all types of buildings, from old buildings to multi-family houses and new buildings to commercial properties.

The VISSOLAR energy system is space-saving and uncomplicated to install. It offers up to 100% energy authenticity.“ says B4H Green Energy SE new shareholder Princess Maja von Hohenzollern.

B4H Green Energy SE has developed a unique and award-winning hybrid solar system that simultaneously generates electricity AND heat and even cools in summer.

It thus offers a major advantage over conventional solar or photovoltaic systems, which can usually only produce either hot water or electricity.

In addition, the VISSOLAR hybrid solar system – which consists of a solar heat pump, solar hybrid collectors, a highly efficient buffer and battery storage – achieves a significantly higher energy self-sufficiency of up to 80%.

By using an electricity cloud, this can even be increased to 100% energy self-sufficiency and thus offers significant relief for private households as well as for commercial enterprises.

It is ideal for use in new buildings, renovation and existing properties and works for underfloor heating and radiators.

Karolina and Wolfgang Balthasar, founders of B4H Green Energy SE: “We are happy that we could win Princess Maja von von Hohenzollern as an active investor who supports us in our international development.”

The performance of the company, which has already grown by over 1900% in 2020/2021 compared to the previous year, has continued to grow strongly in the current year and has already doubled its 2021 turnover as of 31/07. This impressive growth demonstrates the huge demand for energy efficient energy systems.

The company B4H Green Energy SE is currently preparing for its IPO in the third quarter of 2023.

Beside her business Princess Maja von Hohenzollern is also a committed animal welfare activist and lives with 6 dogs and 8 cats, 1 horse and 3 goats all of whom she has rescued and adopted from the streets or from killing stations.
Princess Maja stands up for the rights and the protection of animals and specially for stray dogs. She travels regulary to Eastern Europe countries like Romania, to stopp killing of incocent animals from the street and to initiate neuter-actions as well as to promote for the adoption of stray animals.

Princess Maja talks to politicians  to improve laws, runs educational work to change peoples attitude towards animals and, togehter with PETA, introduced animal welfare classes in schools in Romania.
She runs her own foundation for the rescue of stray dogs (www.heart4strays.com).

For her worldwide social commitment Princess Maja von Hohenzollern has been honored with several important international awards, like:

    -„European Animal Welfare Award“, (Germany)
    -„World Shining Heroine Award“ (USA),
    -„ PETA Compassionate Award etc“.

Where do you find inspiration? What motivates you to work harder?

In general, I find my inspiration in nature. I like traveling. I am an early riser, as well. Mornings give incredible creative energy.

Another thing, I do believe, if there is a hand of God in your business, you will succeed. Plus, I am always thinking about how to bring more value to people. I respect my clients as each of one are owners of big businesses in generations. For me relationships are very important. l always follow up with my circle. Give added value. When my clients feel happy this is the best reward for me.

Kindly mention some of the notable recognitions and accreditations received by your person.

I am very proud, that I build a very firm and respectful career of a news anchor in Moscow. Presented programs “Business Morning”, “Business Day”and “Breaking News” at the First Federal Russian Business Television, RBC-TV https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/RBK_TV

Was invited as first Russian-speaking VIP media personality to Dubai International Film Festival in 2016 to highlight and represent the activity of Festival with all of the international and Arab film professionals, Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTAs winners.

I have been playing on the Forex market. By the way, my the first real estate item I’ve got from this business.

2022 started franchising my business over 22 Arabic countries and Asia.

What is the one thing you wish you had known about women in your line of work before you started working?

When I have been working on TV in the news, I definitely payed attention at my female colleagues more than at male. As women are more dedicated to what they do and how they look.

When I found myself in business, I payed more attention to man. As they are more logical and always focused on the final result. And no unnecessary emotions.

Do you believe it is compulsory for a woman to manage a household alongside her work?

It’s in the nature of a woman to look after the household. And a normal woman will always do some minor house work. From my point of view,  it’s a respectful attitude to your home where you life and to your family. Personally, I can’t sit calm on the sofa and watch Netflix when the flowers are not watered, for example. But, I do have assistants, drivers that help in our house hold.

Look how successful Oprah Winfrey is with her TV shows and how well she cooks, surrounded with her family members. And that’s very appealing to her followers as well.

But, defiantly if you have a big house, children, pets you need super extra help and another team who will manage the household.

As a woman, what has been the highlight of you career? What are the changes you wish to make for the better in your professional life post-pandemic?

The greatest highlight of my career is yet to come. My big achievement is being prepared “brick by brick”. As I started franchising my business. I am building something useful for the users on my media platform “Magnificent Middle East”.

The most difficult thing that I have done during any period of my career is  strengthen my belief that I am on the right path. As this belief I had to transmit to my team and clients. Best way for me, is to get more busy and escape inner conversions. And share the results when they are ready.

Brief us on the changes the pandemic brought to your sector and your market. Has the work-culture altered?

It influenced the outdoor advertising, printing of magazines, filming videos, but boosted digital and online businesses.

We grew in pandemic. I persuaded most of my clients to double their advertising budgets on digital all over the world. I encouraged them to do it. And they were grateful to me, as they had benefited from it. As history shows, great companies happen in hard times.

What words of wisdom/ inspiration/ advice would you offer to the next generation of female leaders?

I live in the Middle East. I stand will all the women and their freedom of choice, family, education and career. I would advice not to fight for this freedom with their sake of their lives. Let it come naturally. As the river flows. That is my main message. We as women can’t conquer the world. We need to serve the people and make anything in this world with love. And to follow our dreams. I wish all young female entrepreneurs to build  their careers around what they love. Than wealth and legacy will follow them. It’s a big success to be recognized as professional in your segment on the market.

I am a great fan of Asia, besides the Middle East. Asia has got amazing Singaporean politician Lee Kuan Yew. A visionary thinker and transformational leader. Here are some of his most memorable quotes from different points of his career as prime and senior minister. And finally minister mentor. I would like to share some of them with the readers.

“If you do not know history, you think short term. If you know history, you think medium and long term.”

“If you want to reach your goals and dreams, you cannot do it without discipline”.

  • Presenting the Multi-Talented Beverly Joubert, Co-Founder of Great Plains Filmmaker, photographer, designer, wildlife conservationist and National Geographic Explorer at Large

Presenting the Multi-Talented Beverly Joubert, Co-Founder of Great Plains Filmmaker, photographer, designer, wildlife conservationist and National Geographic Explorer at Large

The internationally acclaimed Beverly Joubert is an award-winning filmmaker, photographer, wildlife conservationist and National Geographic Explorer-at-Large with over 40 films co-produced with husband Dereck Joubert and with 12 published books as co-author with Dereck. She is one of the passionate co-founders of Great Plains, a unique conservation tourism company built around bespoke, caring, meaningful and considerate values.

Entirely self-taught, Beverly Joubert has been recognised with her husband internationally for the raw authenticity of their work with accolades including: The World Ecology Award, a Peabody Award, 22 Emmy nominations and 8 Emmy Awards as well as the Presidential Order of Merit in Botswana. With more than 40 produced films, 12 published books and many scientific papers, Beverly and her husband Dereck are also the founders of the Big Cats InitiativeProject Ranger and their charity Great Plains Foundation.

Whilst the Jouberts have won international recognition for their films and conservation work their greatest rewards have come not in the form of trophies but rather in their conservation successes, helping local communities, saving the wildlife they are so passionate about and the wilderness which has become their home.

Beverly has also been heavily involved with Great Plains Foundation’s Solar Mamas initiative. Great Plains Foundation recently took nine ladies from selected Botswanan rural communities to India for six months to undertake solar engineering training. Upon returning to Botswana, these Solar Mamas shared their knowledge and set up solar plants and businesses in their communities as a source of power, income generation and empowerment. These Solar Mamas have also had small business enterprise training to boost their knowledge and skills to share with their communities and develop their small businesses. https://greatplainsfoundation.com/solar-mama/

March 2021…// The internationally acclaimed Beverly Joubert is an award-winning filmmaker, photographer, wildlife conservationist and National Geographic Explorer-at-Large with over 40 films co-produced with husband Dereck Joubert and with 12 published books as co-author with Dereck.

“Even as a young girl I was always inspired to create and photography was one of the early expressions of that creativity. But there is a huge difference between taking family snaps and achieving a National Geographic cover. So I try to look at everything through that lens of a magazine cover, the ultimate measure of success for my work – this is an ongoing process,” comments Beverly Joubert.

In November 2020, Beverly and Dereck Joubert released their latest book ‘Blood Moon: Rescuing the Rhino’, about the remarkable efforts to move rhinos from high-poaching zones in South Africa, to less ‘hot zones’ in Botswana. It is an ongoing project which the Jouberts’ charity, The Great Plains Foundation, supports and facilitates. Beverly creates and contributes her photography to the Jouberts’ books and films whilst Dereck writes the text and script, and does the filming; the two complement one another perfectly. Of Beverly, Dereck says: “A lot of what we do looks easy but it is not. The long hot days, in dust with flies, getting stuck in the swamp, or crashing planes and being attacked by wildlife is incredibly risky, and uncomfortable and would be for even the toughest men I know. But Beverly takes it all in her stride.”

Always working on the next project, Beverly is now finalising their ‘The Ultimate Book of African Animals,’ due to be released by National Geographic in Q2 2021. The Jouberts are currently working on a film for National Geographic Nat Geo Wild about the cheetah out of the Mara, which will be released in Q4 2021. The dynamic duo are also in preparations and post production on a film that follows rhino relocation after 5 years.

“Working together on all the projects is a huge positive for our work, we can add the ying and yang in everything we do,” said Beverly Joubert.

The Jouberts create, design, and operate sixteen stunning safari camps under the Great Plains brand in Botswana, Kenya and Zimbabwe. With conservation at the forefront of their business, the camps are solar-powered and are created with the utmost respect to nature, so guests can feel comfortable about their environmental footprint in their sustainable camps. After falling in love with a particular site for a new camp, Dereck and Beverly familiarise themselves with the area, often sleeping out on the ground to get that feel of energy before building a camp. Dereck is in charge of ‘the narrative’ behind every camp having its own story, the architectural design of the camps and the Jouberts work together to extend that narrative into the iconic interiors and classic décor, opting for pieces which look better and better with time and wear.

When it comes to selecting her favourite camp from the Great Plains portfolio, Beverly is unable to choose just one. “I see the camps representing the areas of Africa we love and the camps are built to convey that tented transient nature of camping with a luxury feel, so as a result this is our signature style at Great Plains,” commented Joubert. Utilising the challenging COVID period as a time to refresh their portfolio, the Jouberts are currently working on opening five new camps in 2021.

The Great Plains Foundation, which strives to preserve and protect landscapes, wildlife, and the communities which rely on them in Africa include a project close to Beverly’s heart, The Solar Mamas, a programme that looks for options to help local communities establish solar plants and businesses as a source of power, income generation and empowerment. The Great Plains Foundation took nine women from selected Botswana rural communities to India for six months to undertake solar engineering training and has since electrified 450 households and changed countless lives. Beverly is currently working on expanding The Solar Mamas further.

In between making films and doing photography, getting involved in the camps, and the Great Plains Foundation, Beverly and Dereck started a clothing range, from their designs and creations, D&B Explorer Collection. Focusing on practical, comfortable and presentable clothes that can be worn on safari or to a formal occasion, Beverly describes the signature looks of D&B Explorer Collection as “soft but rugged, linen tropic designed by two people who know what it is like to live and work in clothing that also needs to look presentable and fresh. We want our fine linens and timeless pieces to make you feel special.” The D&B Explorer Collection continues to expand with new pieces designed by Dereck and Beverly for their future guests to enjoy.

Whilst the Jouberts have won international recognition for their films and conservation work their greatest rewards have come not in the form of trophies but rather in their conservation successes, saving the wildlife they are so passionate about and the wilderness which has become their home.
